Dysport FAQ

How Does Dysport Work?

Specific muscles of the face are injected with Dysport. Dysport will prevent or weaken a particular muscle movement after the injection has taken full effect. This limitation of muscle movement allows for less fine lines and wrinkles creating a smoother and more restful appearance to the face.

What Do Dysport Injections Treat?

Dysport can be used to treat many different conditions at Dr Sean Weiss – Facial Plastic Surgery.

Dysport treats wrinkles and fine lines created by repetitive muscle movements. These repetitive muscle movements cause furrows in the skin that deepen over time. By directly injecting Dysport into the muscles responsible for causing the wrinkles, they temporarily paralyze or weaken and allow the overlying skin to smooth out creating a more youthful and rested appearance.

The common areas that Dysport is used to smooth lines and wrinkles include:

  • Glabella “11” lines between the eyes
  • Horizontal creases on the forehead
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Smoker lines around the lips
  • Banding lines in the neck
  • Gummy smile

What is a “gummy smile”?

A gummy smile is when a person’s upper lip rises too far above the upper teeth line causing excess gums to show. Botox can be used to treat the muscles that raise the upper lip to soften the movement of the upper lip above the teeth line to improve a gummy smile.

How can Dysport help to narrow my wide jawline?

Some patients have a large masseter muscle causing their jawline to appear wider than desired.  A patient with a wide jawline can be born with this large masseter muscle or it can be caused by clenching/grinding. By injecting this muscle with Dysport, it can be weakened and make it shrink in appearance. This can create a slimming effect on the lower face. Many patients who grind their teeth or are of Asian descent are good candidates for this treatment.

How Long Do Dysport Injections Last?

The average patient will see the effects of Dysport last from 3 to 4 months after their injection. Some patients will experience longer-lasting results.

At What Age Should a Patient Start Using Dysport?

Dr Weiss feels that age is not a primary factor in the decision making process of when to start Dysport. When a patient develops fine lines or wrinkles in the areas of repetitive muscle movement, they are good candidates to consider starting Dysport. With some patients, this can start in their late 20s and much older in others. Anatomy can be a determining factor in an individual’s aging process when it comes to wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements.

Can Dysport Be Used to Prevent the Formation of Wrinkles?

Using Dysport to prevent wrinkles and fine lines is very common.

How Much Does Dysport Cost in New Orleans?

It is understandable that patients are concerned about the cost of Dysport, but this should be secondary to who they choose to perform their Dysport treatments. In today’s world, there are many people injecting Dysport and with varying degrees of expertise, knowledge and training. The skills, talents, and background of the injector is the single most important factor in ensuring a natural result.

It is likely that more experienced and highly trained injectors will have a higher price than less experienced and trained professionals. But overall, there is not a big difference in cost between the highest-priced and lowest-priced cost of Dysport. Our staff will be able to give a price estimate for Dysport in New Orleans over the phone if requested.
